Two weeks ago was my fortieth birthday, and I wasn't feeling
too hot that morning anyway. I went to breakfast knowing my wife
would be pleasant and say ? Happy Birthday,?
and would probably have a present for me. She didn't even say ? Good Morning,? let alone any ?Happy Birthday.?
I thought, ? Well, that's wives for you. Maybe the children will remember.?The children came in to breakfast and didn't say a word.
When I started to the office I was feeling pretty low and despondent.
As I walked into my office, my secretary, Janet, said,
Good morning boss, Happy Birthday.?
So I felt a little better; someone had remembered.
I worked until noon. Then Janet knocked on my door and said,
You know, it's such a beautiful day outside and it's your birthday,
let's go to lunch, just you and me.? I said, ?By George,
that's the best thing I've heard all day. Let's go.?
We went to lunch. We didn't go where we normally go;
we went out into the country to a little private place.
We had two martinis and enjoyed lunch tremendously.
On the way back to the office, she said,
You know, it's such a beautiful day.
We don't need to go back to the office, do we??
I said, No, I guess not.? She said, Let's go to my apartment.?
After arriving at her apartment she said, Boss, if you don't mind,
I think I'll go into the bedroom and slip into something more comfortable.?
Sure,? I excitedly replied. She went into the bedroom and,
in about six minutes, she came out carrying a big birthday cake,
followed by my wife, children and dozens of our friends.
All were singing. Happy Birthday? and there on the couch I sat... naked. And that is why I fired my secretary!

Unable to bear the tales emerging from call centres, of condoms clogging toilets, live-in relationships and other joys condemned in the Old Testament, Christian evangelical groups are circling the Call Centre, offering to show one road that everybody points to the young - the right path.
They are asking the youth to carry chastity cards that say, "commit before god to save the gift of my sexuality from now until marriage, regardless of past."
The Christian concern that has been building in the last few years is birthed in the fact that a growing number of its youth is entering call centres. The outsourcing industry in India employs about 400,000, with an average starting salary of over Rs 10,000.
Catholic priests are cautioning parents about the moral perils of Indian outsourcing's famous night shift. Spiritual counsellors are seeking out lovers and asking them not to get physical. And they are also telling homosexuals that they must be mentally ill because if their orientation were normal.
Scores of evangelical Christians have even infiltrated call centres in the guise of regular workers to keep an eye on the youth.

Though I am no fan of Saddam nor his regime and his self destructive and vindictive policies.

I think the way regime was toppled. The way new government was imposed. The way Saddam was tried and the death sentence given...
...is mockery of international justice, democracy, sovereignty.
Death to Saddam is major blow to international justice.

This by no means justification of Saddam. Rather it has little to do with Saddam. In my mother tongue there is a saying,

Two Kondh women from Orissa’s Koraput district have defied all norms of their tribal society to live as ‘man and wife’ after tying the knot recently.
Bateka Palang, 30, wed her bride, 25-year-old Maleka Nilsa of Ghumuru village in Bandhugaon block in a traditional ceremony at Dandabadi, a remote village in Narayanpatna block, in the presence of family.
The village has given its grudging approval—the elders have asked residents not to talk about it to outsiders for fear of shame—to the relationship that
was formalised after all the usual wedding rituals, including dowry changing hands.

The phenomenon of same-sex marriages is new in tribal society. According to Kondh tradition, the groom’s family has to give a dowry to the bride’s parents.

This was my first real acquaintance with Indian caste system some 30 years ago. Earlier I had heard stories of ‘poor Brahmins’ of ancient period. Still never know that I also belong to this caste and what it means.That time still confused about what a big deal in being Brahmin I asked father.
“So what?”
“Brahmins are supposed to be intelligent genetically. Their traditional job was to gather and disseminate knowledge. So son of Brahmin is considered born intelligent”.
Now truly that time it was music to my little ears. Never ever that time I understood that I will be having lot of interaction with this social reality in future and take up mission to study and reinterpret peculiar Indian caste system, which is vastly analysed from western perspective. Anyway that’s later.

Now I wanted to know ‘we are Brahmins’ means who are included in this 'we'.
Who are Brahmins and who are not? How I can spot and recognise Brahmins?
Caste system began its operation in my little brain, which was supposed to be intelligent.
So I asked father,
“We mean who? Does all people in our village are Brahmins? How we can know?

66% Settlers In ’05 From Indian Sub-Continent

South Asians or citizens of ‘new Commonwealth’ nations such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were the largest single group of immigrants to the UK last year, government number-crunchers have computed. An estimated 121,000 arrivals from the ‘new Commonwealth’, most of them from the Indian sub-continent, added a startling 500 people per day to the population of Britain, the Office of National Statistics said on Thursday.

The revelation triggered a fierce row on Thursday with British Asian policy wonks and researchers challenging the controversial contention that two-thirds of the UK’s long-term settlers in 2005 originated in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

While Danny Sriskandarajah, a researcher of South Asian origin, insisted that most South Asians arrived in Britain as welcome guests to work, study or give the benefit of their skills to the British economy.

Moxon on the other hand insisted that Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Sri Lankans were the biggest reason for Britain’s soaring population.

What is the truth?
