I just read a news...
Budhha and Mahavira statues are stolen.
This is amazing.
One of the eight principle of Budhha's Eight fold path was against stealing.
Similarly one of the Five Vows which Mahavira prescribed to his followers was non-stealing.
Still these people have stolen their statues. And whom they will sell them? Surely the people who love Budhha and Mahavira, not kowing they have got these statues as one of the principle of their ideal was not followed.

No Steve, that is old sad story. That day was one of the saddest day in my life. Though Budhha's statues or idols don't matter me lot but it was historical treasure that was destroyed.
I am refering to different story, which is recent and took place in India. They did not destroy anything, they simply stolen the statues perhaps to sell hem to any museum for hefty sum.

So it's just a basic art theft then. Who would buy these things? Who could they share the purchase with.............Hey, come into my library. Yes! That is the Buddha stolen from India.
Seems so pointless, doesn't it?

In one sense, yes. Bu I just wonder noone stealing principles of these people. It seems their statues have become more valuable than their principles for some. Look at the sharp contrast. They ask people not to steal and people slolen their statues.

Seems to me that if you are a thief then you have no respect for any belief system? Is respect for property a western ideal? Let's suppose that the individuals concerned have a number of hungry kids at home? Is it justified? Food in the kids mouths or aesthetic considerations?

In such case I will support theft. But i think this is organised racket which steals ageold statues, idols, paintings, artefacts and sell it internationally. Its big industry I guess.

i have always said this....take for example a non-driver drives the best car in thw world, take it to be benz.....and he happens to bang the car badly, will we then say, shit what car is it or will we blame the driver, naturally we will blame the driver.....i equate the benz car with religion and the driver with a follower of a particular faith........today followers of all religion are into practicing evils,so we cant blame the religion for it..........today followers of howmany religion know what their religion really talks about.......today you may find people reading bible, quran, bhagvad geetha, tohrah, zaboor, guru granth etc etc but how many read it with meaning.............

Even if they read and memorise each and every word, they can't follow it.
